Editorial policy
How every page on this site is sourced, written, checked and kept up to date.
1. Official sources only
Every legal statement on this site comes from a statute as published by a legislature or government agency. We store a dated copy of the official text. Before a statute is used, we check that the copy is the complete, current section: the section number and official heading must match, and the section must not be marked repealed, expired or renumbered.
2. Writing
Guides and key-fact summaries are drafted with the help of an AI writing assistant that is given only the official text of one statute and instructed not to add anything the text does not say. We do not use it to give advice or to predict the outcome of any case.
3. Checks before publication
- Every quotation must appear word for word in the official text.
- Every dollar amount, number of days and percentage must appear in the official text.
- Any section number cited must be named in the official text.
A draft that fails any check is not published. It is rewritten or reviewed by an editor first.
4. Keeping pages current
Official texts are re-checked every week. When the wording of a statute changes, its pages are rewritten from the new text. If a statute can no longer be verified, for example because it was repealed, the related guide is taken down until it can be checked again. Each page shows the date its source was last checked.
5. Community content
Questions and answers in the community are written by members and are not reviewed for legal accuracy. Posts from new accounts are held for a quick review against spam and abuse.
6. Independence and advertising
The site is funded by advertising. Advertisers have no influence over what we publish, and ads are clearly labelled. See our advertising disclosure.
7. Corrections
If you believe a page is wrong or out of date, please tell us and include the page address. We check every report against the official text and correct confirmed errors promptly.
8. Not legal advice
Harrington Community is not a law firm, and nothing on this site is legal advice. Laws change, and your association's governing documents may also apply. For advice about your situation, contact a licensed attorney.
